Spotted Leaf-nosed Snake

Distinguishing Features:

(Small snake) up to 20”

Tan-colored snake with more than 17 brown blotches on its body.

A dark brown line extends down from the sides of their eyes to their mouth.

Snout is blunt with a thick triangle scale.

Underside is plain-light colored.

Pupils are elliptical.

 

Reproduction:

Oviparous.

Produces up to 6 eggs in the summer.

 

Behavior:

Nocturnal.

Ground-dweller.

 

Habitat:

Western and south-western Arizona desert mountain ranges.

 

Hibernation:

Hibernates in winter.

 

Diet:

Exclusively eats eggs of snakes and lizards.
