Behavior: 

Red-tailed hawks are diurnal, very territorial, and stay together for years defending their same territory.  They soar over their territory on clear days, looking for intruders.

 

Territory: 

2 square miles

 

Diet: 

85% of their diet is rodents. They also consume small mammals, birds, and reptiles.

 

Life Expectancy: 

21 years

 

Fun Facts: 

Adult red-tailed hawks are large formidable birds that have very few predators. The red-tailed hawk is also famous for is screech you hear in most movies that involve any sort of outdoor desert scene, often mistaken as that iconic eagle scream!
