Oviparous

4-8 born in Summer

 

Behavior:

BITES WHEN HANDLED OR HARRASSED!

Nocturnal during warm months

Hibernates in Winter

Spends most its time underground in rodent burrows

Subspecies of Massasauga's in America

1. Eastern massasauga rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus)

Found in North-eastern U.S.

2. Western massasauga rattlesnake (Sistrurus tergeminus)

 

3. Desert massasauga rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus edwardsii)

Found only in south-eastern Arizona
